Not Your Grocery Store Variety

This is where I will be updating new varieties of vegetables, herbs and flowers that I discover throughout my journey. Check back often for new posts added to the list:

Lovage (Levisticum officinalis): Very flavorful herb in the parsley family used in soups and on salads. The plant can grow to be 6 ft. tall and bush out 4 ft. and looks and tastes like a combination of celery and parsley. Look for potted lovage plants at the Charlottesville City Market. Plant in full sun in rich fertile soil. Pick leaves to add to salads and toss stems in soups for a rich flavor.

Easter Egg Radishes (Raphanus sativus)
A mix of red, purple, and white round radishes. Maturing over an extended period of time, they stay crisp and mild even when large. We are harvesting these for market now!

Scarlet Queen Red Stem Salad Turnips (Brassica Rapa) These scarlet red turnips are a delicious addition to salads. They have a sweet crisp white flesh and a spicy red skin. We had our farmer's market customers try them this past week and almost everyone decided to take some home for their salads. Most preferred the flavor to a radish! A must try!
